Johor Bahru City Square is often the first stop for many Singaporeans after crossing the Causeway. However, the popular mall is currently undergoing a major multi-year renovation and expansion, with completion expected in Q4 2027.

The ongoing war in 2026 has had significant global ripple effects, with fuel prices in Singapore rising as supply chains tighten and market uncertainty grows. 1. Temporary Fare Adjustment to Support Drivers

To help drivers cope with higher fuel expenses, STRIDES Premier will implement a temporary fare adjustment.

From 30 March 2026, a $0.01 increase to the distance‑time rate will apply to all metered trips. Importantly, 100% of the amount collected from this adjustment will be passed directly to our taxi driver‑partners to help offset rising fuel costs. STRIDES Premier will not retain any portion of this increase.

These temporary measures will remain in place until 31 May 2026, as we continue to closely monitor fuel price movements and the broader situation. We remain committed to carefully balancing the needs of both our driver‑partners and commuters as circumstances evolve.

2. Fuel Credits for Drivers

To support our driver‑partners in managing rising fuel costs, STRIDES Premier is rolling out fuel credit initiatives for both existing and new drivers.

Existing driver-partners

In close consultation with the National Taxi Association (NTA), a one-time $50 fuel credit that can be used at STRIDES Premier’s in-house fuel station at Changi South. This credit will be provided to all Strides Premier’s taxi and PHV driver-partners. You can find our official press release here.

For all new Taxi and PHV driver‑partners who sign up with STRIDES Premier before 1 May 2026, you can enjoy up to $500 in fuel credits to help reduce operating costs. 1. Hey “KEW”-tie, you look “KEW”

Located somewhere in Bedok (the town where hearts go “be‑dok be‑dok”), this playful line takes inspiration from one of the lesser-known road names in Singapore. Calling someone a “KEW‑tie” is the perfect icebreaker to slide smoothly into their DMs.

Interestingly, during our research of road names in Singapore, we found articles online mentioning multiple World War II pillboxes still nestled within Bedok today and one of these pillboxes is reportedly sighted along Kew Drive. If you are wondering what a pillbox is, it is a dug-in guard post used as a first line of defence against enemy ships and troops. While intriguing, we’re unable to verify this fully due to limited official documentation. Keep reading, because we have a few more examples of how road names in Singapore are often linked to rich, hidden histories.

2. How has your day been? The weather has been really “holt” recently.

I know, I know, we can feel your eyes rolling to the back of your heads but trust me, asking about someone’s day or talking about the weather can indeed be a good way to fill the awkward spaces in conversations.

Holt Road is located somewhere in River Valley district. ‘Holt Road’ was named in 1921 after Private Holt of Singapore Volunteer Corps, who was one of the casualties in the Singapore Mutiny of 1915. With effect from 1 July 2026 onwards, STRIDES Premier ceased our SG-JB cross-border web booking services and our taxi services are available for pick-ups via street-hail at Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore or Larkin Sentral Terminal in Johor Bahru. Whether it’s a one-way ride or a round trip, you’re free to choose what works best for your travel needs. 

Effective from 4 May 2026 onwards, Singapore-registered taxis are permitted to drop passengers off at approved locations in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai, and Senai, so long as they fall within the operating boundaries set by the Malaysian authorities. How much will the Singapore-Johor taxi service cost?

 You can refer to the table below for the latest prices, effective from 4 May 2026 onwards. Our SG-JB cross-border web booking services has been ceased effective 1 July 2026.

What payment methods are accepted?

Only cash payment in the respective currency denomination is accepted for all cross-border taxi trips to Johor Larkin Sentral Terminal or any of location within the operating boundary of Johor Bahru, Iskander Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai.

How many passengers can the cross-border taxi service ferry?

STRIDES Premier Taxis can ferry up to 4 passengers in a single journey. 

Where can you take the cross-border taxi service from?

Effective from 1 July 2026 onwards, our pick-up services are only available via street-hail at Ban San Street Terminal. Within Johor Bahru, our pick-up services are strictly from Johor Larkin Sentral Terminal only.

Johor Larkin Sentral Terminal is the official pick-up and drop-off point for licensed street-hail taxi services. Located beside the largest bus terminal in Johor Bahru, it offers convenient access to popular spots: just a 10–15 minute taxi ride to KSL or 20 minutes to Mid Valley Southkey. 

Can STRIDES Premier guarantee arrival time at Larkin Sentral?

No. Due to unpredictable traffic conditions at the immigration checkpoints, STRIDES Premier is unable to guarantee an exact arrival time at Johor Larkin Sentral or anywhere else within the JB operating boundary map. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly, especially if connecting to other transport services. Please note that STRIDES Premier is not liable for any delays or missed connections resulting from traffic congestion. 

What is the immigration clearance process?

Singaporeans and foreigners can use Malaysia’s National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) for QR code-based clearance at Johor checkpoints. Groups may register via the MyNIISe app and clear immigration using a single QR code, helping to reduce wait times. Please note that passports are still required for verification.  

That said, immigration regulations may change over time. Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest requirements and ensure that all essential documents are prepared and readily available before the trip.

Applying for a TDVL in Singapore

There are a total of seven steps to apply for a TDVL in Singapore. While it may seem like a lengthy process, we’re here to simplify it for you. Read on for our comprehensive guide on how to apply for a TDVL in Singapore! 

Step 1: Check your eligibility

Before delving into how to apply for a TDVL, the first step is to check whether you are eligible to apply. A good start would be to ask yourself the following questions:  

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all seven questions, you meet the eligibility criteria to apply for a taxi license in Singapore. 

Step 2: Get the necessary documents ready

After checking your eligibility to apply for a TDVL in Singapore, the next thing you should do is to prepare some documents in advance for a smooth and easy application: 

Do note that the maximum upload per application for each document is at 2 MB, and the recommended file format is jpg or jpeg. 

Step 3: Apply for TDVL online

Once you have gathered all the necessary documents, you are now ready to learn how to apply for TDVL! Simply follow LTA’s step-by-step guide, which is complete with pictures and screenshots. 

To begin the application process, visit GoBusiness Singapore and log in using your SingPass. Be prepared to pay a non-refundable application fee of $40 to LTA using your credit card, debit card, or PayPal details.

Step 4: Wait for LTA’s approval letter

After submitting your application for a taxi vocational license, you can expect an approval letter from LTA within 30 working days. This is assuming that all the required documents were correctly submitted without errors.

Step 5: Go for a medical check-up

The next step in applying for a TDVL in Singapore would be to undergo a medical examination to ensure you are in good health. Visit any clinic, hospital, or SATA Diagnostic Centre in Singapore for your medical check-up and chest X-ray. 

Before your appointment, download and print LTA’s Medical Examination Form. This form must be completed and certified by a registered medical practitioner. Meanwhile, your chest X-ray report must be signed by a radiologist. 

Step 6: Attend the TDVL course

Upon receiving the approval letter from LTA, you can proceed to register for the TDVL course via NTUC LearningHub. You must complete the course and pass the competency test within 12 months of the issue date of the approval letter.

Step 7: Receive your taxi vocational license

After passing the TDVL course, you will receive a Temporary Vocational License on the same day and can start driving a taxi in Singapore. Within the next 20 working days, you will receive a Digital LTA Vocational License (VL) via your SingPass app.  

*NOTE: As of 1 April 2023, LTA no longer issues physical taxi licenses in Singapore. You may use the Digital LTA Vocational License as your official identification document.
